Everyone wants to save money. By using simple energy conservation ideas and investing a little time, you can save a lot of money and help out the environment at the same time.
A lot of people seem to think that conserving energy and going green will require massive lifestyle changes. Nothing could be further from the truth.In reality you can make as big, or as small, changes as you want. Either way you’ll save some money.
I’ve put together a list of some things you can do to cut back on your utility bills by conserving energy, this should give you some ideas of where to start:
1. By lowering the temperature on your thermostat by just a few degrees you can save yourself hundreds of dollars, or more.
If you really want to save money invest in a programmable thermostat. That way you can set it to lower the temperature, during the winter, when you’re not there or in bed and raise it right before you get home or get up in the morning.
By doing this you don’t have to pay to keep the temperature turned up all day and you don’t have to come home to, or wake up to, a cold house.
2. Tighten up your house and make sure your furnace is running right. Add caulk, insulation, and new windows and doors, or at least a window insulating kit.
That way your home will keep the cold out and the warm in.
3. Build a wind turbine or solar panels to generate part of your own energy. Turbines and solar panels make sense for homeowners all over the country since they are cheap to build but they will meet about half of your home’s energy needs.
