Personal Alarms, A Must For All Women

Ladies, here are some unfortunate statistics that are undoubtedly disturbing: One in three of you, (American women) will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime and one in four female college students have either been raped or have suffered from attempted rape! This is truly unacceptable in today’s society, but in reality it’s an ongoing trend that never seems to subside in spite of our continued education and ever expanding punitive laws.

I hope that you are like me, a realist, in the fact that we should be proactive in trying to protect ourselves by any means possible if necessary. I’m aware that many of you ladies are hesitant to even consider carrying a weapon for various reasons, this is understandable, that is why I would like to discuss a second option that can be very effective in itself in warding off an attacker, this is the “PERSONAL ALARM.”

PERSONAL ALARMS are small electronic devices that are carried on your person at all times and are activated by you if you are accosted in some way. These alarms emit some big noise, generally they are in the range of 100 to 130 decibels each, the noise being adequate enough to be heard a good 1/4 mile away.

So why are they so effective? Just think to yourself….does an attacker want to stick around a crime scene if there is a blaring signal that calls attention to your plight? An effective PERSONAL ALARM is a call to action, it is a distress call that will either bring help or curious onlookers and that would more than likely be enough to convince a would be attacker to flee the scene. I would even suggest it as a deterrent device, if you think that a person is getting too close to you and you sense a potential problem, just activate your alarm!

The Police have also long espoused the use of PERSONAL ALARMS for women because they are a non-lethal and effective form of self protection. Women who attend college, in lite of the alarming statistics mentioned earlier, should all carry a personal alarm. As a parent, you might want to insist on this. The sad truth is that many rapes on campus occur in a room that is surrounded by other rooms that are occupied at the time, if an alarm were to sound, more than likely many of these rapes could be thwarted.

PERSONAL ALARMS are varied, some can be carried on a key chain for easy access or clipped on a belt or purse. Some alarms also have an added feature of a flashlight or LED light, these are great for real estate agents that work at night or night shift employees. Probably the best type of alarm, in my estimation, is the kind that comes with an activation pull out pin. This type of alarm is activated by pulling out a wrist strapped pin from the unit, this is a great feature because an attacker will not be able to …

The Value Of Personal Assistant Services

Many startup businessmen are confused whether hiring a personal assistant service would be the ideal choice for them to take their business to the next level. Generally, when it comes to hiring a personnel, most of the businessmen will think whether hiring such an individual will be beneficial for their business and whether it will be helpful in increasing the productivity of their organization. Only when their question is justified, they will take further step towards the process. This is true in the case of hiring a PA as well.

Generally, most of the established businessmen go for hiring a personal assistant service, when a new project is about to begin. When a new project begins, the key personnel, who was taking care of tasks of personal assistance will be forced to be engaged in this new project and so there should be some other individual in the place of this individual just for the time being until the project gets completed. So, for this short period, they go for hiring the service of a company, who has expertise in this area. We are looking for the most sophisticated, kind, outgoing, and polished individual to act as a right hand person for our client.

As the professional firms offering personal assistant services, will have many such trained personnel working for them, they can assign the right kind of personnel with experience in the same field of operations of their customers. This will enable the customers to get the right kind of intended service from the personnel.

Another situation, when businesses look for personal assistant services is during the restructuring of the business. During this process, generally the jobs of most of the staff will be redefined. During these times, each of the staff will be forced to do the work of two people and there should be someone to carry out the administrative work of the organization and here these service providers can provide the right personnel intended by the businessmen contacting them.

Another situation that might need a PA is when an event is planned to be held in the organization. Sometimes, big corporate firms will have corporate gatherings and even sometime some client meeting will be planned to be held in a larger scale. In these circumstances, PAs can be entrusted to take care of all the tasks pertaining to the successful arrangements for the gathering or events. They can provide the right kind of service in this arena.…

What to expect from a good personal injury lawyer

Accidents caused by another’s negligence can not only be frustrating, but devastating.  Hiring a personal injury attorney can ensure that you get the compensation necessary to cope with the injuries and devastation caused by someone else’s negligence.  There are many personal injury lawyers in Utah, but it is important to know what you should expect from a good personal injury lawyer before you decide on which Utah personal injury lawyer to hire.

A good lawyer should be attentive to you.  When you’re dealing with the pain and difficulty of a serious injury it can be frightening to have your fate in the hands of a lawyer you’ve never met before.  A good Utah personal injury lawyer should recognize what is at stake for you as well as acknowledge and be considerate of the fact that this process is unfamiliar to you.

They should be a good listener and communicator and help you develop reasonable expectations for progress and outcomes of the case. You should not have to wait and wonder when you’ll hear from your lawyer next, each time you speak with them they should let you know when you can expect to hear from them next.

A good personal injury lawyer should be able to explain to you what is happening in your case.  The defendants and their lawyers are going to be doing all they can to keep you from getting what’s fair and it will take more than just having the truth on your side to win your case.

A good personal injury lawyer will fight for you and be dedicated to making your case as strong as possible.  You want a Utah personal injury lawyer with a strong work ethic who will work hard for you, keep your case moving forward and keep you updated on your case.

You should also expect your case to get the personal attention it deserves.  Before choosing one of the many personal injury lawyers in Utah, you should consider how many cases the lawyer is handling.  If they are handling hundreds of cases at a time it will be impossible for them to give your case the attention it will require.

This doesn’t mean you have to be the only case they have, but if they are handling hundreds of cases at a time, you can be sure that the work on these cases is mostly handled by the staff and not the lawyer.  You want to make sure you are getting an experienced lawyer with a manageable case load that has the time to dedicate their experience and knowledge personally to your case.

Why is Insurance Important?

There are different types of insurance. Home, automobile, and life are just three of the various kinds of insurance policies that are available for consumers. Insurance, of all kinds, is used to help protect consumers when certain things happen. For the most part, this protection comes in the form of money. It can also provide protection from liability, damages, and financial loss, but in the end, it usually comes down to money.

Most consumers know that there are certain types of insurance that are mandatory. Many states require that automobile owners carry a minimum amount of insurance for each vehicle the person or business owns. As with some other types of insurance, automobile insurance can be somewhat broad in nature. In other words, you can buy a simple liability policy that will pay a certain amount of money to someone that you have an accident with, but will pay nothing towards your own damages. Moving up the scale, you could purchase a more comprehensive policy that pays for damages to both you and the other person, including medical awards and property damages. There are levels of coverage all along the way, and this is why automobile insurance can be considered broad in nature.

In the case of automobile insurance, the reason insurance is important is that it protects you from having to pay damages in the event that you are found at fault for the accident. Without automobile insurance, you might lose everything that you have, including future earnings in order to pay these damages. Most consumers simply cannot afford to buy another vehicle for someone should they severely damage that person’s automobile. The same holds true for any medical costs that might be associated with an accident wherein you are found at fault.

With home owner’s insurance, the minimum coverage level is often determined by the lender. Many home owners will add to this level of coverage in order to protect such things as their furniture and other personal items against loss. Coverage will usually extend to people who may be on the property should they encounter an accident and sustain injuries. Again, the importance of insurance is to protect the owner from legal actions that may arise from outside parties as well as to protect the owner from real property damage such as fire.

In the area of home owner’s insurance, there is often controversy over what is known as flood insurance. Home owners should not assume that their policy covers damages due to flooding. This is often assumed by home owners and can lead to severe losses should a flooding event occur. The only way to know if you are covered for flooding is to ask the direct question to your insurance company and to read what is in the insurance contract. Thousands upon thousands of homeowners have encountered severe financial loss because they assumed they were covered for flood damages when, in fact, they were not.

In addition to personal property insurance there are other types …

ObamaCare Penalty for No Insurance

In January 1, 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or “Obamacare” will go into effect. The ACA requires significant changes to guaranteed issue laws. As a result of Obamacare, individual and group health plans must guarantee issue policies to all applicants, regardless of health status or other factors. Penalties exist if you do not have insurance in place.

PPACA requires most adults not covered by an employer or government-sponsored insurance plan to maintain health insurance coverage or pay a penalty, a provision commonly referred to as the individual mandate.

Although bitterly contested, the Supreme Court on June 28th, 2012 upheld the individual insurance mandate. Although President Obama had said the ACA was not a tax, The Supreme Court, which has the final say, says it is a tax and the law will go into effect.

A historic overhaul of the health insurance system in the US is underway and many are wondering what happens if you don’t currently have health insurance.

Currently, insurance companies can still deny coverage until January 1, 2014 due to pre-existing conditions. After this date, they will no longer be able to deny you coverage and premiums will be limited by law. If you have been turned down for health insurance in the meantime and don’t qualify for medicaid, then you may be eligible for coverage through a temporary high risk pool (PCIP) These PCIP’s are also a new requirement of the law.

What happens is you don’t have insurance:

(Per Time magazine)

Penalties that apply: (per Time Magazine)

(Anecdotal story from Picayune Times on how not having health care could affect someone. ) Weave into story… do not take verbatim or reference in article.)

As an employer, my company offers Blue Cross medical coverage to all employees. It is a benefit and helps attract good employees. My company doesn’t have to offer any insurance at all. Under Obamacare, my company will be fined $2,000 per employee if I don’t offer a company plan.

The average Blue Cross cost per employee for my company is around $4,000 a year, so the fine is less than the cost of the insurance. But remember, even with no penalty whatsoever my company has been offering health care. So if I was offering health care when there was no penalty, I sure am going to be offering health care if there is a $2,000 per employee penalty.

Again, the reason for this is health insurance is vitally important to employees. Many employees won’t even consider working for a company that doesn’t offer health insurance.

So under Obamacare, employers have even more incentive to offer company plans.

The question is whether employees will care as much given the new rules which allow anyone to sign up for the government plan at the last minute, even if they are suddenly diagnosed with cancer.

Remember now that about a third of the lower income earning families may be eligible for Medicaid, which is virtually free. So we are only talking about working families …

The Importance Of Establishing A Personal Brand

Developing a personal brand is essential to differentiating yourself and establishing a reputation. Personal brands are developed over time, but can be honed, shaped, and changed at a moment’s notice. Personal brands are good for any professional, but are absolutely essential if your business is you.

A personal brand is more than just subject matter, interest, or task. If your passion is fish, you should be talking about fish as often as possible. You should be reading stories about fish, posting comments on fish-related websites, joining social groups devoted to fish, and otherwise networking with like-minded “fishies.” But, while fish may be your subject matter, it isn’t your brand. Coca-Cola is a soft-drink, but the Coca-Cola brand is so much more. So, what is a personal brand? Ultimately, a personal brand is how you would, or would like to, be described by others. If people think you’re funny, cool, or talented – that’s your brand.

The three part personal brand

In my experience there are three areas for personal branding – social, professional, and technical. Social is the most personal of the personal brand – it is how your family and closest friends would describe you. Professional is how you would be described in a professional setting – work, school, professional associations, etc. The technical brand has more of a categorical purpose, as it describes the subject matter relevant to your brand.

If you take a business, let’s say Coca-Cola, and think about these three areas, you might break them down in the following way: Social/Personal: traditional, sweet, American; Professional: profitable, ubiquitous, corporation; Technically: soft drink, unhealthy, fizzy. Now, these might not be the terms Coca-Cola wants, or tries to have, associated with their brand, but they are what came to my mind as I thought about the product and company.

Discover your personal brand

Here’s a simple exercise to help you determine your brand.

  1. Pick three words or phrases that you would use to describe yourself, socially/personally. (For myself I’d say direct, kind, and honest.)
  2. Pick three words or phrases that you would use to describe yourself, professionally. (For myself I’d say leader, hard-working, intelligent)
  3. Pick three words or phrases that you would use to describe yourself technically. (For myself I’d say technology, social media, web)

Try to get at the core elements that make you, you.

Use these terms to maintain your personal brand

Once you have your terms, start letting them influence your social and professional habits. If you are trying to build a personal brand of being kind and honest, don’t bully and hard-sell – it’s too easy to replace your personal brand with one that you might not want.

Next time you interact with someone, write an e-mail, or send a tweet take the time to think, “Is this interaction direct, kind, honest, intelligent? Does it express qualities of leadership, or a good work ethic? Is it within the technical scope of my brand?” If the interaction can be described by a good number of …

Why Budgets Fail

A budget is important part of managing your personal finances; however, many consumers avoid this task because they think it’s too hard or a budget will stop them from enjoying their life. A budget isn’t supposed to restrict or punish you. It’s a spending plan that will help you achieve a stable financial future.  So why do budgeting efforts fail?

Many consumers treat their budget like a diet.  They treat a budget as if it’s a temporary fix, where they watch their spending habits until they hit their financial goal. But once that goal is met, the person goes back to their old spending habits and a few months later they’re back to where they started. Budgeting is a lifestyle choice, not a diet. It’s a part of your everyday life and helps guide you to make better financial choices.

Just like a diet, many consumers think a budget will deprive you of the things you want. However, it’s the exact opposite. A budget helps identity where you’re wasting your money, and helps you modify your spending habits to be more balanced. By cutting out the wasteful spending and watching your dollars, you’ll be able to save money for the important things in life: a home, a new car or even retirement.

Some consumers think that a budget won’t fit into their normal life. That weighing and measuring the dollars you spend just isn’t a practical, long-term strategy. However, with the Internet and debit cards, it’s easy to keep track of your spending habits. Most banks will let you export your banking statements so that you can categorize your expenses and keep track where your money is going.

Lastly, many consumers assume that budgets are rigid, inflexible financial plans. That once you make a commitment to a budget, it can’t change. But any eating plan or budget that holds to strict, inflexible rules will not last under the test of time. A healthy eating plan and budget needs to be flexible for your lifestyle.

Southern California Auto Accident Lawyer’s Top Ten Common Regrets After a Ca Car Accident

1. Annoying the police officer.

2. Antagonizing the other driver.

3. Having tried to drive and eat a chili hot dog at the same time.

4. Reaching for something that fell on the floor.

5. Using your cell phone to call your best friend.

6. Trying to pick up on the paramedic.

7. Sniveling.

8. Not having your proof of insurance.

9. Passing out.

10. Forgetting who you are.

Here are ten useful tips of advice from a Southern California auto accident lawyer to follow if you have been in an accident. You can also learn more about how to handle an auto accident in Southern California, or any city in Southern CA, by calling the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at any of the numbers which can be found on our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com  and learning how we can assist you.

Obviously, if you have had an accident, and you are reading all of this advice, it’s probably been at least a few days since the accident. However, if it’s only been a few hours or if you ever have another accident, here’s what you should do the next time from the start.

First, take a look around and determine if you or anyone, are hurt. If so, taking steps like trying to prevent further injury or loss of blood are the most important thing you can do. Even if some other driver caused you to be injured, it’s just good manners to help the other driver if they are hurt. They may even be so thankful that they admit their fault to you. The worst thing you can do is get angry or start a fight.

Second, make sure everyone is safe from being injured further. If you are in the middle of traffic, and you are dizzy, sit down away from traffic. If your vehicle is a traffic hazard and you have accident warning devices like flares or triangles, put them out on the road to warn other drivers and get away from the car. Let the police an other emergency personnel investigate the scene with the vehicles in place and move them more safely at a later point.

Third, call the police. Accident reports are extremely helpful if the police will do such a report. Let the police know you are injured immediately. Answer the police questions honestly. But if you are dazed or confused, let them know you need medical treatment and answer only what you feel sure about. Remember, your statements can and will be used against you if you admit fault, and it will be too late and too fishy to later say you didn’t know what you were saying at the scene. Police know that your best recollection is immediately after an accident.

Fourth, get the other driver’s information including their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, make and model of their vehicles, license plate numbers, and their insurance company name and policy number. If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses …

Will: Can one of my Beneficiaries be my Executor in my Will?

Yes, your Beneficiary may be one of your Executors and it is quite common for this to happen. A common arrangement is for a husband and wife to be both the Primary Beneficiary and Executor appointed in each other’s Wills.

Due to the personal nature of the duties that an Executor undertakes, you should appoint someone that you trust to carry out the process; this will quite often be someone who is also a Beneficiary. Some of the tasks of the Executor include (but are not limited to); taking care of funeral arrangements, organising your estate and everything you own for distribution to your Beneficiaries and paying off any debts and outstanding taxes that you may have owed upon your death.

It is important that the Executor/s appointed will also be of a sound mental state at the time to be able to carry out your wishes and also generally able to do so. It is one thing to trust someone to be handling your personal affairs, but they need to also be able to carry out the task. In most instances, there will be two Executors appointed to a Will so the Executor work and decision making is shared. Also in case that one of the Executors passes before you, there will still be one appointed and left to carry out the tasks of administering your Will. You might arrange it, for example, so that your partner as an Executor will handle all the very personal details such as funeral arrangements and organising your estate, and other Executor who will be suitable for handling the more financial and legal side of things such as paying off debts and taxes, distributing the estate and acting as a Trustee if required. There are a number of ways you can arrange Executor duties and the choice is up to you.

However, it is important to note that with a very large estate and/or one that will require Trustee arrangements, it is recommended that you consult a solicitor to ensure you have set up your Will and estate correctly, according to legislation and to avoid any problems for your Beneficiaries.

Problems can arise though when there are disagreements between the Beneficiaries themselves. A Beneficiary who is the Executor does have the upper hand and disagreements can result in costly and sometimes lengthy court cases. Of course, this is not usually the case but should be taken into consideration when appointing Executors.

In any case, there is no rule about who can and cannot be appointed as your Executor of your Will, only that they be over the age of 18 years, of sound mind and able to carry out your wishes and any decisions responsibly. The decision on who will be appointed the Executor of your Will rests entirely with you and your wishes. In most cases the Executors will require legal help to administer your Will and if at the time an Executor is unable or unwilling to carry out the duties, …
